In order to ensure the good functioning of Ocawa, all modifications to the rule-set (that is: all added rules) can be monitored, not only to confirm that they detect the anomalies they are intended to catch, but also that their inclusion has no unwanted global side-effects for the inference engine (expert system). The mechanism of an expert system, a rule based system, referred to here as an "inference engine" is such that all the rules work together, thus adding a new rule can have effects on the behaviour of other rules.
Tests of non-regression of the rule-set allow a simple way to guard against this. This test base is itself a website, integrated into the Ocawa interface and so appearing seamlessly as a feature of the application. As such they are at the very heart of Ocawa: they keep a constant test on the quality of the audit process (itself a test on the quality of the web).
