France Telecom R&D is the European leader in research and development in telecommunications, creating longterm value through innovation and forward thinking. The decentralised and lateral organisation of the group has meant a high facility for convergence between France Telecom Group's approach to the market and the products developped through R&D.

France Telecom R&D is heavily committed to accessibility across the board in all of the services that modern technology makes possible.

As well as a strong in-house research team, France Telecom awards up to 60 research grants a year to public laboratories working in telecommunications or associated areas. In addition over 150 researchers are working toward PhD theses with the support and involvement of the group.

France Telecom also boasts 600 successful research contracts over the last 10 years, 50% of which were with small to middle size enterprises and a portfolio of 4,000 patents, over half of which are international.
